Training programme
The following activities are integral part of the PhD programme and of the training plan:
- Experimental research work. PhD fellows are directly involved in their scientific PhD projects and are responsible of a part of the work under the guide of the supervisor.
- Journal clubs and lecture courses. PhD fellows participates to discussions on Recent publications of general importance in several journal clubs. They also participate to weekly 2-hour lectures held by the different groups leaders who present the basics as well as the latest discoveries in the field of their own expertise. The aim of these lectures is to provide further insight into the above described fields.
- Internal seminars. PhD fellows participate to internal seminars every six months followed by the evaluation by the tutor. The fellows also write a report, concerning research internal activities and collaboration between institutes, and expose his/her conclusions every year in occasion of the internal seminars.
- Participation to workshops. The EIMID fellows have to participate and to present their data to international workshops at least once a year. The proposed yearly workshop is the annual EIMID meeting.
- Participation to scientific meetings. In addition to the workshops, the fellows have to participate and to present data on a yearly basis to international meetings, to be decided by the supervisors together with the fellows.
- PhD courses. Fellows will follow 32 weeks of graduate courses on matters related to Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at own host institution/university or at any of the other EIMID institutions.
- Complementary skills courses. Courses on non-scientific matters will be organized every year (spring 2007, 2008, 2009) by the Coordinator. The courses will cover topics like IP protection, research funding, communication and dissemination of science to non-scientific world, etc.
- Rotation periods. Two 3-months rotations in two different EIMID institutions will take place at the beginning of the second and the third year.
- PhD thesis. The fellow will discuss the finalk PhD thesis at the end of their training programme. There will be the mutual recognition of the PhD degree among the EIMID Institutions and the associated Universities.
